# Organizations (/docs/organizations)

An **Organization** is the company, team or client you work for in Obelism. It holds the people (each with one [role](/docs/organizations/roles)), which [products](/docs/organizations/product-access) they may use, the [Spaces](/docs/organizations/spaces) your sites live in, and billing. It is the same Organization in Improve, Content, Numbers and Media: invite someone once and they reach every product you let them.

You can belong to several Organizations, an agency with a few clients for example, with a different role in each.

## Creating one [#creating-one]

**Create organization** on your [dashboard](https://www.obelism.studio/dashboard) makes one, with you as its admin.

<Callout type="info">
	While Obelism is in beta, creating an Organization takes an invite code.
	Request one from the create page (or
	[apply](https://www.obelism.studio/apply)). Once it's approved, the code is
	filled in for you, for the email address you verified. Joining an Organization
	someone invited you to needs no code.
</Callout>

Next you name its **first Space**: the site or project you start with. The products open in it from then on, and you can add more Spaces any time. An Organization always has at least one.

## Inviting people [#inviting-people]

Admins invite people from the Organization's **People** tab:

1. **Invite people**, then one or more email addresses (up to 50 at once), each with a role. The role starts as reader.
2. Each person gets an email with a link that works for **72 hours**. **Resend** sends a fresh link; **Revoke** makes the old one stop working.
3. They sign in or sign up with **that email address**, verify it, and accept. An invite also shows on their dashboard once they've signed in.

Invites are matched by email address, which is why an account's email can't be changed. Someone who is already a member, or already invited, is skipped.

On the same tab admins change a member's role, choose which products they may use, and remove them. Each change has an **Undo**. See [Roles](/docs/organizations/roles#safeguards) for what can't be changed.

## Switching [#switching]

The switcher in every product's sidebar picks the Organization and Space you work in, and switching in one product switches all of them: open Improve after switching in Content and it's on the same Space. [Switch organization](https://www.obelism.studio/organization/switch) on www lists every Organization you belong to with your role in each.

The environment (`develop`, `staging` or `production`) is not shared: each product remembers its own.

## The Organization's page [#the-organizations-page]

[www.obelism.studio/dashboard](https://www.obelism.studio/dashboard) leads to each Organization's page, with these tabs:

| Tab                       | What's there                                                                 | Who                                |
| ------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------- |
| **Spaces** | Its Spaces, each with its own page; creating one | Everyone |
| **People** | Members and their roles, product access and invites | Everyone sees it; admins change it |
| **Products** | Which products the Organization uses; switching Improve or Content on or off | Everyone sees it; admins change it |
| **Billing** | The plan, usage and invoices | Admins |
| **Organization settings** | Its name, and deleting it | Admins |

## Renaming and deleting [#renaming-and-deleting]

Admins rename the Organization under **Organization settings**. Its slug, used in some URLs, stays the same.

**Delete organization**, also there, deletes it for every product once you type its slug. Its sites stop at once: Improve's datafile answers not found, Numbers refuses new events and Content stops serving. Its Spaces, content, files and events are removed for good 30 days later.

<Callout type="warn">
	Deleting an Organization takes every Space and every product's data with it.
	To keep a site, [transfer its
	Space](/docs/organizations/spaces#transferring-a-space) to another
	Organization first.
</Callout>

## For agents [#for-agents]

An agent manages Organizations through the [MCP server](/docs/agents/mcp) with the same rights as the person who connected it: `createOrganization` (with an invite code), `listMembers`, `inviteMembers`, `updateMember`, `removeMember`, `listInvites` and `acceptInvite`. Deleting an Organization is never an agent's call: the MCP server doesn't offer it. See [What an agent may do](/docs/agents/permissions).
